University fine art help?

Madge Voice: One way to distinguish fine art from other art courses is by looking at the end result. Fine art is an end in itself whereby it is generally meant to be shown in galleries or museums, purchased and collected. Other art courses have more functional purposes that contribute in the end to a greater collaborative project. One can certainly take a cross section of either courses and end up in either direction as well. The original distinction has long lost its practicality as the classifications are not exclusive. Most fine art courses would benefit anyone pursuing a career requiring a sense and ability with art......even if only to write about it....Show more

Cuc Gire: the main suitable paintings colleges that I ran for the era of whilst finding for a school have been: Parsons in ny, Maryland Institute college of paintings, Savannah college of paintings and layout, and Otis college of paintings and layout in California.

Vernon Martorana: Depends on th! e university, but at mine, there is an art school which encompasses all the arts (fine art, media, and design). There are different departments such as painting, printmaking, digital media, graphic design, art education, etc. Fine art is usually defined, for instance, digital media is art, but not a fine art. Painting and sculpture are always defined as fine arts

Coralie Goldsberry: I see Fine Art as the pursuit of art making for the sake of creating art.The artist is totally immersed in the idea and or content of the piece, the challenge of the media, and the choices of presentation. This is all the process and it is the art.Was Van Gogh worried about making money? Yes. He had to exist; to eat, and have his needs met. He sold one painting in his lifetime, but look at the prices his works have commanded in today's market. So what about the goal to make money. It is a part of life granted, but Van Gogh did not paint to please a market. If he had his paintings would have! been very different.Fine Art is the truthfull pursuit of art ! for art's sake, no ulterior motive. The courses in Fine Art training at a university involve Design, which teaches the artist the elements of art, the principles, content, and the ability to combine these into a statement or a comment, or a record of what the artist sees, feels, and wishes to express.Art History is also taught to artist, so that they might know what has preceded them and through this information be knowledgeable about their own creations. It teaches drawing, painting, sculpting, printmaking and other disciplines which might be used by the artist to get their meaning across.Art is art. Some say Fine Art however to differ it from craft, while some believe that any creation in which the artist embellishes with an artistic aesthetic is art. The word media in a catalog often refers to film making, still film, computer work, etc. but when spoken in a painting class, refers to the paint.Hope I was helpful. These are questions(Fine Art and craft) which are continuin! g to be discussed at full length in the classroom and out. The discussion rages on, and may never be answered. One must answer it for themselves....Show more
