At a time when the data justified a renewed Skepticism! , the Global Warming community doubled down. Because the Globe had stopped Warming, Global Warming became Climate Change. Skeptics were renamed 'Deniers' & AGW Theory became 'Settled Science'. I don't know precisely what the politicians were doing, but my recollection is that 2006 was when AGW went into full on self defense mode. Prior to 2006 AGW was very much presented as science. After 2006 it was presented as 'Undeniable Truth' Arguments for AGW picked up ad hominem attacks, The theme from the IPCC was to sell the 'consensus' among scientists.
