Athletes: what is athletic conditioning?

Merlin Fleischhacker: Athletic conditioning is basically training and getting in shape for a sport. For example, cross country and track get in shape by running, abdominal exercises, and occasionally weightlifting, plyometric, and isometric exercises. Football, on the other hand, would focus more on strength training and reflex training. The types of conditioning will depend on the physical demands of the sport, whether it is speed, strength, agility, or endurance. Conditioning normally starts at least a month before the regular beginning of a sports season, but can go all year round, depending on the mentality and preferences of the athlete. No! rmally by the end of conditioning, an athlete will be in good enough shape to compete through the season near maximum performance.
