Hello expert car owners or mechanics, I have a critical/bloody question?

Frederic Engellant: Just don't drive anywhere near me please. There is a lot more in a service than oil change; brakes for example.

Avis Brantner: No - you will not have the equipment or expertise to do all of the other service items required. The oil is the easiest one on many cars. Other service items are - Oil filterAir filterBrake pads and rotorsBrake fluid changeCoolant changeSpark plug changeCam belt change if fittedets etc etc...Show more

Neely Youngblut: Changing the oil is good, but better is to follow the whole maintenance schedule, and just do the labor yourself

Perry Deshazior: 2 points thanks

Janeen Perona: Maintenance makes the car cheaper to own not more expensive. For example: your Corolla maintenance probably says new spark plugs at 100,000 miles. Lets estimate that costs $200. Letting spark plugs wear out and fail will still cost the $200 to replace them. But in addition: a diagnosis of $100 to figure out what's gone wrong. Worst ! case also includes a catalytic converter because you drove while spark plug was not functioning: my experience is catalytic converters range from $150 to $3300 depending on car! Follow the maintenance schedule in your owners manual. Ignore the so called maintenance the oil change people try to sell you....Show more

Flor Lizardi: That's reasonable. The only things I've had my '98 Corolla in a shop for since 2003 were tires/wheel alignment, and body repair after getting hit. It has been tough as a hammer and dependable as the sunrise. I had the extended maintenance on my wife's 2010 Corolla, but since that's over I'm doing the upkeep. Since 1998 they have a timing chain, so timing belt issue doesn't exist. Some other engines have belts still, and that's something you should rely on pros to do when the time comes....Show more
