Mildred Pombo: Not if you're donating it. If you were selling it then yes, current registration is a plus when it comes time to sell. But giving it away? Don't bother. Depending on your state's rules charities often have to turn in the plates on a donated vehicle anyway, so it'd be a waste of money if you were planning on the charity route.

Leticia Laiben: No, you don't need to renew your registration before you donate your car. Also, in many states, if you sell or trade in your car to a dealership, they are required by law to give your plates and registration sticker back to you. So it would really be pointless to renew.
